I can't say with certainty that this applies to ALL Xerox toner products but the toner for iGen3 machines, while it has no real expiration date, is better if newer as it tends to have issues if stored improperly for any length of time. So if it's iGen3 toner it's probably a manufacturing date.
Also, for an iGen3 machine, the toner formulation has changed over the past 5 years. The manufacturing date can tell you what formulation you have and how it might behave.
