American Racing Custom Wheels Make Your SUV Appear Genuine For Racing
Custom after-market car wheels from American Racing are a great example of how seeing and servicing a niche within an American subculture can evolve into a mainstream business. The subculture we are talking about here is the California car culture that spawned drag racing, funny cars and street racing. The Beach Boys and Jan and Dean and others immortalized the culture in song while pop culture's Dickens, Tom Wolfe, chronicled it in his book The Tangerine Flake Cream Colored Baby. American Racing custom wheels are an object lesson in how to become a cultural icon. Get American Racing Custom Wheels.
After the end of World War II, car hobbyists in southern California and the San Francisco Bay areas began to customize their cars in imaginative ways. A synergy between what came to be known as Funny Car builders and street racers met in the nascent sport of drag race.
Between them, these two invented the mag wheel. Using spoked magnesium wheels with a strength to weight ratio unheard of in any other automobile wheel format, they revolutionized drag racing, first, and American car wheel design second.
Demand for the wheels grew until the partners decided there was enough demand to justify a full blown after-market wheel business. Romeo and Jim, with engineer Tom Griffith founded American Racing Equipment. American Racing custom wheels broke into the mainstream in the early sixties with the introduction of the five-spoke American Racing 'Torq Thrust' wheel. The look of the wheel was attractive to non-racers, while the high performance was a hit with racers.
In 1962 Griffith created the most famous after-market wheel in automotive history, the Torq Thrust. His parabolic tapered 5-spoke design broke with everything that had gone before and broke with the semi solid wheels that were the main line of pursuit of other automotive wheel design.
The American Racing Torq Thrust wheel was so innovative and so stylish that it crossed over frpm the car fanatic market to mainstream America. Cars that we think of as prime examples of American Iron muscle cars, like the Chevy Bel-Air, were actually targeting the conservative mid-market when they were introduced. But when A set of Torq Thrust American Racing custom wheels were added, the car suddenly became an entirely different animal. Today original the Torq Thrust wheels are highly prized by car collectors.
Remember The Dukes of Hazzard? Of course you do. Over the course of the series' 147 episodes and 2 TV movies, Warner Brothers built 340 General Lees and each one was outfitted with American Racing custom wheels - Vectors being the wheel model Warner Brothers used. All but 19 of these '69 Chargers were totaled doing stunt jumps. Of the 1284 American Racing Vectors that were on those 319 totaled General Lees, only one Vector did not survive. And yes, it belongs to a collector.
American Racing Truck Custom Wheels are familiar to people all around the world through the use of the American Racing Automotive Custom Wheels on cars that feature prominently film and television. From the quintessential 60's car race movie Bullit, to the General Lee from the 70's TV hit the Dukes of Hazzard, to the 90's Die Harder with a Vengeance to the 21st century blockbuster the Fast and Furious and Transformers, American Racing custom wheels are an essential part of the look of American culture.

Artists fighting with their record labels-- nothing new.
But Elvis Costello has taken it to a whole new level in his fight with Hip-O
Records.
The British songwriter has advised fans to pay "Less Than Zero" for his pricey
new box set, "The Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook." It costs
$202.63.
In a blog post on his web site titled "Steal This Record," Costello writes:
**" … the price appears to be either a misprint or a satire... If you should
really want to buy something special for your loved one at this time of
seasonal giving, we can whole-heartedly recommend, 'Ambassador Of Jazz'...
containing TEN re-mastered albums by...Louis Armstrong... Frankly, the music
is vastly superior."**
Costello's promotion of Armstrong appears to be genuine, but MSNBC's Courtney
Hazelett says his blog post is an accidental plug for the pricey set.
**"What's funny here is that it's inadvertently great publicity for Elvis
Costello. I for one didn't know he had a box set coming out, and now I sure
do." **
Tech Dirt writer Zachary Knight says Costello's objection to the box set's
price shows he cares about his fans.
